The SRC held their final read through and vote for their updated bylaws on Thursday resulting in a unanimous vote to pass.

Students were welcome to attend and pose any questions or concerns, however there were no students present outside of the council.

The changes include the elimination the following council positions: VP Student Affairs, Media Representative, Social Events and Promotions Representative, in addition to one each from the faculties of Arts, Business, and SASE. To replace VP Student Affairs specifically, the bylaws state that VP Finance would absorb their duties.

In the place of those axed, there is the addition of a Disability/Accessibility Representative, a LGBTQ+ Representative, a Nursing Representative, and a Dalhousie Medical Representative, the latter to be appointed by their student union.

Additionally, the SRC cut the President’s honorarium from three times the amount of a domestic student’s tuition to double the amount of a domestic student’s tuition plus $1,500 to save on costs. The council members’ pay was also docked from an honorarium of $200 in addition to $25 per meeting attended to only $25 per meeting.

The new bylaws will go into effect during the 2018-2019 academic year. A full list of the proposed changes can be found in the July 11 meeting minutes, found here.
